Do people like this really exist?

Due to the credit crunch i’ve lost me well paid banking job and now out of work i’m living on job seekers allowance of £65 per week.
Well out go waitrose and M&S i’ve been doing me shopping in iceland and BLIMEY i cant believe me eyes talk about rough women, all dressed in track suits showing off their midriff (stretch marks as well) teeth missing and tattoos all up their arms buying some off the most unhealthiest food and drink there is.

I had the misfortune to be behind two of them in the queue, well the foul language that came from their mouths not to mention the unpleasant smell from the pair of them left me quite perturbed.
As they walked out of the shop the first thing they done is lit up their ciggies whilst one also opened up a can of pepsi from a just bought crate of 24 downed it in one then let out a massive burp. DISGUSTING

Malta Sliema Hair Stylist?

A quick question for all the people that are familiar with Malta, Sliema.

Me and my partner are re-locating for his job.

I will have to either start working or open my own business. I am a Hair Stylist and it is a great job as I can take it everywhere with me.

I have done a bit of re search on the current existing Hair Salons in Sliema and I have not found much. There isn’t that much to find online, which indicates a gap in the market ?

I would not mind either way, working for someones business or starting my own, I am just very curious, if anybody has an opinion on this ?

Work for a salon, or open my own business either mobile or renting a place ?

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

There are 33 hair salons in Sliema which is actually one of the towns with the most hair salons. You can find the list here: http://www.yellowpages.com.mt/Malta-SLIEMA/HAIR-SALOON/He/HAIR-SALONS/1-in-Malta-Gozo.aspx However, Sliema is considered as one of the most touristic places so hairdressing is in demand. I suggest you do not limit yourself to just Sliema. Distances in Malta are very short so it should not be a problem to work in another town. Also, if you decide to rent a place to open your own business, it might be cheaper in another town when compared to prices in Sliema.

Sandra Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Sandra asks…

Is this harrassment? What can I do about it? Should I just ignore it?

I’m 29 and I was engaged to and living with someone from age 20 to 25. It wasn’t a perfect relationship and we had problems but I didn’t expect him to go out to work one day and never come back. He left in the morning and phoned me whilst I was at work during the afternoon to say that he’d pretended to go to work but had actually left me and had put our house (which we had a joint mortgage on) on the market (lying to estate agents in order to do this)… I arrived at our house to find that all of the electrical items had been removed (TV, computer, DVD player, stereo system) plus CD’s etc.

I basically had to move back in with my parents for a year until all the finances were sorted out and I could get my own place (also as my parents lived 100 miles away I had to give up my job and start all over again). I never spoke to him since.

2 years ago I received a message via Friends Reunited which was from him. It stated that he had a bracelet which he believed to be mine and if I wanted to forward him my new address he would send it to me. I had no idea what bracelet he was referring to anyway so I ignored his message and didn’t respond.

About 6 months ago my best friend received an email from him also talking about the bracelet and asking her for my address. We talked about it and again decided to completely ignore it.

Then on Saturday a parcel arrives at my parents house (they’ve only lived at their present address for about 2 years – as in, they were at a different address when I was in this relationship). It contains the bracelet and a note with his mobile number on it saying I should give him a call if there’s anything else that I think he might have ‘mistakenly taken’.

I have no desire to speak to him again (it was almost 5 years ago and I’m over it!) but I am somewhat alarmed that he has presumably researched me in order to find out my parents address.

Do I just ignore this? Or should I take some sort of action like reporting it?

Thanks in advance. Sorry for the lengthy question.

George Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

George asks…

Palm Treo 800w vs. Blackberry: Which Really is Better?

I was hoping that there might be some really technologically-masterful, kind-hearted people out there who could finally shed some bright light on this subject. I work for a law firm that subscribes to Sprint (we get to keep the phones we choose, even if we leave the firm). While the firm will pay for the service, we must pick up the tab for the phone. In my case, that means $249.00. This PDA-type smartphone is/will be my first and I had to make the transition to a PDA-type smartphone because I was strongly advised by ALL of the people in my office that a smartphone would make my job (and life) much more manageable.

So, I called Sprint and spoke to a representative. I explained my needs and the rep recommended the Treo 800w because it was released only a week earlier and was one the “top-of-the-line phones on the market.” I asked about Blackberry, but he said the Treo 800w would be better than the Blackberry Curve for my purposes. I have the option to send it right back within 30 days – no questions asked – in exchange for any other phone in Sprint’s lineup. The Treo 800w just happens to be the most expensive in Sprint’s lineup, so I have the option to choose any other phone they carry. To make a long story even longer, I ordered the 800w despite advice from cazed, impassioned Blackberry and Palm Treo fans in my office. I just chose to order the 800w (and have now had it for 2 1/2 weeks) because it was the most recently released and because the rep told me it was superior to the Blackberry Curve, for my needs. I list my requirements below with the hope that some really super-mega-knowledgable good souls can provide me and others with some really sound advice.

So the following are the most important features to me on a PDA-type smartphone:

(1) fast, reliable, and genuinely useful internet service on the road;
(2) the ability to generate documents from the device itself;
(3) reliable and accurate GPS, and
(4) a good camera with video functionality since I often need it to take pictures and/or videos in connection with my work.

Now, lemmee just finally tell ya’all about my experience with this phone in the past 2 1/2 weeks so I can determine whether I got “a piece,” whether I just need to spend more time with this thing and learn how to use it (yes, I’ve read the manual), or whether I should send it back for a Blackberry.

I post this long question with the hope that the answers will help many others in the same position who must rely on devices such as this one to make life a little less chaotic and to make a living.

I have now been using the Palm Treo 800w for approximately 2 1/2 weeks and have observed that while it was initially and still is fairly difficult to use with regard to the features and functions of the phone (hardware and software), it appears to be an extremely feature-rich phone that works well and quickly, but learning how to use it proficiently seems to be a pain.

The primary difficulty with the phone seems to be maneuvering the complicated Microsoft Mobile Pro 6.1 operating system which many claim is more adaptable and easier to use in professional networking than Blackberries. I know nothing on this topic, so I defer to the experts that will respond. While I am fairly proficient in computers, I have no clue as to how that translates into smartphones. It just seems that performing any simple function on this phone isn’t so simple and requires too many steps. AND, the multiple steps a user has to perform to utilize the function he/she needs to acccess leave programs running in the background which must be closed to maintain the operational efficiency of the system. Also, if people find this bit of information important, the 800w speaker produces horrible sound in my opinion and crackles more than a bowl of Rice Krispies in ice cold milk.

Since this is my first smart phone, I’d like to know whether this is just part of the natural transition from a small flip-type cell phone to a smartphone, or whether Mircrosoft Mobile 6.1 Pro on the Treo 800w is worth the effort to learn. Also, is one really technically better (as between the Treo 800w and Blackberry Curve) or more likely to be more-widely used by industry in the future?

Thanks a bunch in advance for any well-informed information regarding this issue. I hope some of the information discussed in this posting will be helpful to others who have to make a living using these phones. Thanks again for reading!!!

Thanks so much for your responses thus far. Alas, after spending almost 3 weeks with the Treo 800w, I have concluded that it is simply to difficult to use. Even if one reads through the manual (as I have) and is somewhat technically savvy (as I am), this operating system just needs to made more simple. Additionally, the speaker on the phone distorts and crackles sound, there is no flash, battery life is extremely poor, and the lack of a conventional 3.5mm jack for a conventional earphone/headset really makes matters even more difficult. This phone is indeed feature-rich and has remarkable capabilities, but if one is not able to use those functions efficiently, then the entire utility of the phone is diminished. I’d still like to hear any additional comments regarding the 800w, but for my part, I think I am going to return/exchange it for the Blackberry Curve 8330.
Hello there, and thanks so much for taking the time to write. How long have you had your 800w? My dilemma is really the following in the simplest terms. I like the form factor (appearance) of the 800w, and it appears, strictly from a technical specification standpoint, that the 800w is superior. While the Treo has more memory (256MB) than the BB Curve, better resolution, document programs (MS Word), independent Wifi, and yes, the stylus, which I actually like as well, the BB Curve just seems easier to use. However, after having read through the 800w manual and actually having used it “out in the field” for almost a month, I still find it extremely frustrating to operate. For me, the configuration of the MS Mobile 6.1 system on the 800w is not intuitive. My other issues are some more basic: crackling speaker at high levels, lack of an earphone jack, lack of a flash (which can often be used as a flashlight), and voice dialing issues. I hope this info helps others. Thanks!

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

I have both the BB Curve and the 800w and I will be selling my 800w within the next week. The 800w is a durable, well-built device, but I find the Blackberry Curve to be better for the following reasons:

1. BB is much more user-friendly than the 800w

2. Excellent system stability and speedy operation

3. Keyboard is noticeably easier to use

4. BB’s emailing system is a unique and useful feature that actually
does make checking your email a bit easier to the extent that it’s worth noting

5. The batttery life is far superior; my BB will easily last a full day with
heavy use and still have plenty left

6. Although the 800w has better resolution, the BB’s screen is far more
vibrant and easier to read under all conditions

7. The BB also has a 2.0 mega-pixel camera with a powerful flash (800w has no flash) and a video recorder that produce very good
images and recordings

8. GPS works great

9. BB’s web browsing capabilities appear to me to be faster than the
800w’s

10.Have also found that a touch screen, although nice, is not
necessary with the BB since it is so easy to use

11. BB’s organizational applications are good, although the 800w
arguably has better organizational applications, plus MS Word, but
you can download programs for the BB that will solve these issues

12. BB’s speaker is far, far superior to that of the 800w’s

13. The BB has an earbud jack (3.5mm) AND is Bluetooth capable.
The 800w does not have an eabud jack, but has only ONE
micro-usb port which can be used for the headset, or for charging
the phone, but not both at the same time unless you purchase a
splitter. You must use a Bluetooth earphone if you are charging the
unit and want to use it hands-free (unless you purchase a spliiter
which I don;t think Sprint even sells at this time).

14. Both reception and sound quality on the BB are far superior to the
800w

15. The form factor of the BB for typing is better and it is thinner than
the 800w. The BB also weighs less.

Overall, while the 800w is a good device, the BB is just better in many respects and is just a pleasure to use. The only hardware feature you lose by choosing the BB is the Wifi capability, but the BB achieves excellent, if not better data transfer speeds than the 800w without an access point (hot spot). Also, I haven’t yet been in an area yet where the BB was not able to receive a strong, stable signal. The BB Bold will have all of these features as I understand, but I don’t know when it will be released. With either device, I think you’ll be fine. I just prefer the BB.

William Your Questions About Website Design Tips

William asks…

I’m 16 and setting up a commercial website?

Okay so I’m wondering if there is any opportunities or ways to raise funding. Or if anyone has any tips about website design or business templates. My website is www.thegolfinggenius.com

Or if anyone knows any good ways to earn money on a free website that I’ve yet to do!

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Tips

Jay answers:

Print this articleCreating a website for your business is a great way to market your company and get it out there to millions of people–if you do it the right way. If you sell a product, you can potentially sell worldwide. It is cost effective in promoting and providing customer service.

1
Decide what you want your site to cover and what content it will contain. You should also make a list of key words, words and phrases that you believe are associated with your concept and that people can use when looking for your site.

2
Register your domain name, such as johns business.com. It signifies the URL of your website. Domain names are registered yearly, and you can generally register it many years earlier. The cost is usually between $10 and $50.

3
Find a website host. A web host is a company that allows your site to be seen by everyone, at any time. The cost for a good hosting site plan is usually $5 per month and up. Pick your host carefully because a good host will provide great assistance, and keep in mind that some web hosts have an online builder that makes things easier.

4
Build your site. This includes designing; choose the right images and colors to complement your company and its mission. Don’t forget to include your company’s name and logo throughout the site. Also be sure to put the most important content on your site. This includes about us, contact us, frequently asked questions and privacy policy.

5
Promote your site. This can be done in many different ways. You can present your site address to major search engines and directories. These give you a vital source of recurring visitors to websites. In addition to doing this, you can also develop link popularity of your site. What this means is getting a webmaster at another website to post a link of your website on theirs. It helps if you return the favor. You can also promote your website for free on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

I need tips, recomendation or website for designing or creating my personal impressive sober hand signature.?

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Tips

Jay answers:

My life drawing teacher has a crazy signature and she said that it got that way through her art- which is kinda crazy.
So, try making some “sober” neat squiggles or firm rigid lines that all meet together and are all about the same size as you would make the strokes of your signature. Just keep practicing and then try actually signing your name.
My signature is kinda blah, too by the way, so maybe I should try my own advice icon razz Your Questions About Website Design Tips

Advice For My Website Design?

One of my subjects at school involves designing a website for a real client. I have a design I’m working on… but I’m stuck with what to do with it.

Something about it just seems.. off. Does anyone have any ideas when it comes to colour, balance, design, or anything else?

The website is trust fund involving a style of manual therapy, and there is a particular focus in helping children.

They don’t want it to be ‘dry’ and goverenment-type-site looking, but instead friendly and inviting but still official.

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Tips

Jay answers:

Your images are too large and dominating.
You need to introduce a new color. Possibly gold or green. Perhaps for that menu bar and for links.
You should have a solid footer so that it just doesn’t float off the bottom. Just a 6px high blue bar will do.
You need more copy (type), and it needs to be a smaller typesize. Maybe 11pt.
Consider moving the light blue bar on the right to the left.
Make the the distance between the copy and the “Welcome” equal to the distance between the “Welcome” and the blue bar above it. Follow this type of logic throughout. For example: make the copy stop on the right on the same vertical line where the very top right little rounded blue bar begins.
Add small embelishments such as 1px white lines between the bars and the photo. Make the top blue bar a very very slight gradient from a just slightly darker blue to a just slightly lighter blue. Also, that top blue bar is not the same kind of blue as the rest. It contains more yellow and is distracting. Make it the same kind of blue just at a different saturation of opacity.
Make sure that you see what it looks like with different background colors in the browser.
Look at good websites to get inspiration:

Tips for Making Complex Website Designs?

I’m building a couple of websites, two of them are going to pretty large interactive sites. The problem is I make pretty simple website designs that aren’t anything special at all: 2-column, 3 column site with the traditional header and footer, etc. I want to be able to make complex designs similar to any big name site, something that isn’t a tic tac toe grid pattern.

How can I do this using CSS? Getting/making graphics isn’t so much the problem, but just setting up the site look/pattern is.

P.S. I know HTML, CSS, and the basics of PHP, MySQL, and learning JavaScript (a total noob at this so far though).

What is the best Windows Mobile 7 phone in the market right now?

I have seen LG Optimus 7 and I like it.. But i heard it doesn’t have a good camera and there is no bass equalizer in its Zune player. Which phone can do the trick? (Please don’t suggest me iPhone.. I need Microsoft word so I need Windows Mobile phone)

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing

Jay answers:

I’d say one of the Samsung ones, either the Omnia 7 or the Focus seem good. They should both have an AMOLED screen, and a fairly nice exterior. The Focus is also the lightest of the Windows Phone 7 phones.

There is the Dell Venue Pro, but there seems to be a whole lot of demand for it, but Dell has yet to really be able to sell it in stores due to some production issues. So who knows?

Then the HTC ones seem ok. Any of them.

The least I’d recommend is LG, because they’re designs are pretty ugly, though I think one or both their phones does come with DLNA so you can beam media from your phone to TVs or speakers and such that use DLNA.

What is the size of the Mobile Messaging Solutions Industry in Europe?

I would prefer to focus more particularly on Central Eastern Europe, or if possible just Hungary. I’m doing my final project related to my university degree on the Mobile Messaging Solutions Industry provided by the likes of GoodLink and RIM. RIM is probably the most famous service provider and their blackberrys are recognized world over. I am not focusing on the phones per se but rather the services that they supply. The questions regarding the marketing information I am having trouble with and need answers from are listed in priority:

1. Sizing the mobility market (for Hungary or nearest to Hungary as possible: Central Eastern Europe or all of Europe will do.)

2. What is the Forecasted growth / rate over the next few years for this industry in this territory and generally worldwide?

3. What is the Market Segmentation used?

4. What are the different target groups involved?

In today’s technology, E-Marketing have already incorporated online purchasing technology such as purchasing clothes, books and even food online. What could be the future shape of e-marketing(say in 5 to 10 years). This includes both web based and other electronic technologies.

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing

Jay answers:

It all goes in cycles. I remember when direct mail was used so heavily (and still is) and then when the Internet came along, suddenly advertising dollars were being shifted. But wait – now the pendulum is swinging towards direct mail again! Why? It seems that even with a super web site, people need to be notified of it somehow, and the most efficient, fastest way was to send a not or card by mail to tell the customer about the site.

It all is really just another vehicle, and the best advertising is word-of-mouth, because people go where people go. It is the Internet that connects all the thousands of side roads to each other in this massive web. It’s all going to come down to this: What is the most efficient way to get people to part with their money for things they may or may not need?

Well the layout is simple and neat. But you are way off with the color scheme. You need to pick colors that complement each other. You should stick stay away from earthy tones. It doesn’t really match well with your site. I would go with a simple white would a hint of blue to it. Your banner is not good for people with poor vision. Stay away from bright pictures. But if you do go with that add some strong text to it. Not sure if I would come back.

Website design with Adobe software?

I have Adobe Photoshop 6.0, Illustrator 9.0 and GoLive 5.0. it seems like it couldn’t be hard to create a nice looking website in Illustrator, slice it up in Photoshop and then add some CSS in GoLive. But just because it doesn’t seem hard doesn’t mean I know exactly how to do it. Can anyone help? Or point me to a tutorial?

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Tutorial

Jay answers:

Great question! I do agree with the first post, getting Adobe Dreamweaver is a phenomenal idea. Designing sites in Illustrator then to Photoshop for easy slicing and saving for web (shortcut: apple+option+shift+s) as a .png for gradients or .jpeg- remember to keep it as small as possible. Then you’ll want Dreamweaver so that you can create your CSS file (format.css) along with your html pages. Some helpful sites are:

CSS Zen Garden shows you a website that is different by just changing the CSS code. You can even download the CSS to study it. A great site.

W3 is a fantastic resource that will give you every detail you ever wanted to know… It can be a bit of a bore to read though, so have some caffeine handy unless you’d like it for a nifty sleep aid.

Free CSS Templates is always fun for ideas. Check them out for inspiration when you’re bored of what CSS you see.

Roger has some helpful articles that will walk you through a lot- you can also post questions, which is helpful.

There are a bunch more sites as well, plus books, but again, Lynda.com is amazing. Check that one out- if you can devote 18 hours to the videos with a pen & a notepad for reference notes, you’ll be far on your way to where you want to be. I hope this helps! It is very normal to be confused re career options.
Many people find that what they thought was a great career really didn’t match their daydreams.

It is important to realise that this is not a problem. Whatever skills and knowledge you get from training is always useful and can be ported over to many other areas.

Have you ever done the career quiz?
Www.myfuture.edu.au – can be interesting to do.

Revsusan above gave you some really good options.

Just keep working, thinking and researching, you will eventually come up with what you want.

Good luck and don’t stress.

Carol Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Carol asks…

What do you think about the AT&T 50$ labtops?

By ConsumerReports.org
AT&T will begin selling netbooks with integrated wireless Internet cards, selling them for as low as $50 — with a data plan contract, of course. The rollout will begin in Atlanta and Philadelphia.

AT&T is also looking to enter the e-book market, according a company exec quoted by Bloomberg at the recent trade show in Las Vegas hosted by industry organization CTIA Wireless:

The Kindle, which lets users download books over Sprint Nextel Corp.’s network, has done a “phenomenal job,” and AT&T wants to be part of that market, Glenn Lurie, head of emerging devices at AT&T, said today. — Bloomberg.com

Verizon has also expressed interest in entering the e-reader fray, saying it had been approached by five (undisclosed) companies interested in a wireless connection like that of the Kindle.

The takeaway: AT&T’s netbook announcement, along with an earlier one from Verizon, suggests these tiny laptops are increasingly being positioned as much as an additional mobile network-connected device as a supplemental computer.

It’s unclear if the AT&T exec’s remarks on e-readers are anything more than an off-the-cuff response to the success of the Kindle. But the notion of another carrier joining Sprint — the carrier the Kindle uses — in the e-book business is intriguing. Wireless access to content is one of the most compelling aspects of the Kindle, giving it the edge over competitors like the Sony Reader (which we’ve covered in the past). The other is access to the huge library of e-content — Amazon’s 250,000 Kindle titles in the case of the Kindle. And to offer a compelling option to the Kindle, AT&T, Verizon, or any other carrier, will need to find a content partner with a competitive library. It isn’t immediately clear who might be able to offer that (perhaps other than Sony, with its Reader library.)

I worked as a trainer for C, C++, HTML, MS office, CSS for 1 year. As a trainer, I have been an excellent teacher especially for ‘C’ language. But I had to quit as a trainer soon; because I never intended to become trainer. So i don’t like it.

Latter I was a freelance web designer/Developer for 6 months. I used HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Adobe Tools, and little bit of PHP for my designing and Development, During this period, I was able to design and code 2 good websites for 2 good companies all by myself. Although I love Web Designing/Development, I had to stop it as i was not getting steady income for sustaining my life. Moreover I used to get very big projects for which i was not ready. Therefore I felt my career is on the line and decided to find some other job to earn money. Hence i changed my career.

After quitting as a Web designer/Developer, I became Recruiter for a consultancy. I still work for the consultancy as a team leader from past 1.9 years. I am a very good recruiter and have performed exceptionally well so far in the company, but I don’t want to be a recruiter since i feel i’ts not the right job for a technical guy like me. Also, I feel this job is not suitable for my qualification. I love Coding, Writing, Designing, and Researching rather than just talking to people entire day.

Apart from work……
>I’m a passionate blogger. I blog about everything that interests me. I receive 100 visitors per day on an average. Some of my posts benefits others to learn and know things.
>I am an author for a public website; I write articles on technical and HR subjects.
>I’m a member of a HR group where I participate in quarterly meeting and share my thoughts with others.
>I love taking pictures and videos. Latter i edit them and post it on my blog, Facebook, or YouTube – You can say I’m a photo freak.
>I love gadgets, Mobile apps, English Music, Computer. I can talk about them forever and never get bored – You can see many apps occupying my Mobile phone’s memory.
>I love peace, so I don’t like arguing and fighting. I love being surrounded by people who spread smile and peace. I help others a lot without expecting anything in return. I feel threatened when i’m around bad people.
>I use every possible technology such as GPS, 3G, Video and Audio conference, Social networking sites, high end Mobile Phone to make my life simpler, faster, and easier. I can assemble my own PC by getting different computer parts from market.
>I love fantasy, Documentary, and Comedy movies.
>I’m very a hard worker. I stay awake for days to complete my tasks to provide quality results at the right time. I can be anything I want.
>I have a very beautiful girl friend who is true and committed to me.

So you see I have got what it takes to be. My real problem is about my career. I am not settled in my career. It worries me a lot and sometime driven me to suicide. I don’t know what career path to choose that will keep my career safe for long time.

Those who have read the above content, please take some time and suggest me to choose a right career path. and also please let me know steps to reach the goal.

Thank you

Steven Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Steven asks…

Should we stay here or move out? Please help decide ?

We are 33 yrs old married 14 yrs this nov. We have a 4 year old and a baby due in 10 days. We live in a nice family park in a mobile home. there is 47K left on the loan. Next summer would be a good time to move out and buy a home. Husband will be in Grad school another 3-4 years and I will be in school for 4 rs as well. The market is a real good time to buy a home. we want a home now and not live in this one even though we like it (1400 sqft 4 bed 2 bath), We want to have a home not in a park. We can afford a home by then, so what should we do? husband has to be able to pass probation at his state job witch wont be until may next year. Do we put up this mobile home for sale now or wait til early next year. He should know y feb/march how his probation is going.

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

Dont put up the home for sale until you are ready to move. You may come accross the perfect buyer and not be able to move out in time or afford to move out in time and miss the sale. First be sure you can afford the new place, then be set to move within a month of finding a buyer or you will need to put a contingency on the sale such as contingent closing on you finding a house and closing on that. Contingencies scare some buyers away because it means they cant close on the deal when they want to and have to wait on you instead.

Jay answers:

SCAM..

The easiest way to check is to email them from a ‘junk mail’ email address and ask them for a job description for a specific job. They have none so they will BS you a bit and re-ask you for your info and CV.

Or, you can make up one and send it in.. Even if you send in Jeffery Dahlmer’s and ask for a job in the cooking department you will get accepted and a request for a fee will follow.

Daniel Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Daniel asks…

What are some good cities to live in around the US?

I currently rent in Long Beach and want to buy a house for my family. I want to know about any cities that are relatively cheap and safe anywhere in the US. I’ve looked at Palmdale and Lancaster but it seems that the reputation isn’t very good as of lately, high crime being the worst aspect. I want a house for under $100k, safe neighborhoods and preferably a place where the seasons are recognizable (real winters with snow, real autumn etc.). I’ve looked into the St. Louis area and there seems to be some promise there, but where are some of the safer places to live and raise a family and have a decent job and decent schools as well. I’m close to graduating with an Associates in Accounting and was wondering if the places that might come up have a market for some one like me, my wife has been a medical biller for a couple years so there is that as well. We prefer an actual house over a mobile home or a condo, we want the yard for our daughter to play in, plus we don’t want the additional land lease cost that comes with mobile homes/parks. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
Also, We’d prefer a suburb type neighborhood, not in the city. I know city houses tend to run a bit higher and parking can be difficult at times.

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

WIFI is for Internet connections

Bluetooth is for device networking

It is very possible to have both, just make sure that you have a bluetooth card installed and a wireless card installed. These will be two separate devices, because as you can see, they have separate functions. Make sure you purchase a bluetooth 2.0 card. (This will be more compatible with future devices)

The better news is that both of these devices exist in USB form which eliminates the need for you to have them physically installed.

Website Hosting service and Web design software?

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Software

I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/

Powweb is on a 50% sale – $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them.

Their hosting plan includes web builder, so you can create your site just by drag and drop (without any programming), or you could install WordPress (easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.

Laura Your Questions About Website Design Software

Laura asks…

What is the best software for website design, coda or dreamweaver?

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Software

Jay answers:

The best thing to do is to learn to code by hand. That way you can keep your code lightweight and easy to maintain. There are only a hand full of tags. Style your pages with CSS that way they are easy to maintain. Notepad++ is good for writing in as it maintains a color code making it easier to tell what is going on. That and its free.

Dreamweaver is good. Simple to use and understand. I have personal experience with it and have been using it for about 13-15 years (cant remember for sure). Have not used coda.

Stay away from Microsoft editors. They are far to bloated and add unneeded code that are often not cross browser compatible.

David Your Questions About Website Design Software

David asks…

Good website design software/hosting?

I’m looking into setting up an online company so was wondering what design software people would recommend? I’m relatively inexperienced when it comes to web design so it would preferably need to be fairly comprehensive but with the capability to do some advanced stuff when i’ve worked it out. I was also wondering what web hosting people would recommend. Thanks in advance for your help.

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Software

Jay answers:

It actually depends upon what type of website you want to create. If it is primarily information about your company with some minor dynamic stuff like social media functionality (like, share on twitter, for example), then you can go with wordpress (http://www.wordpress.org). It’s a free software that can be installed on your web hosting account and then you can install a theme and start filling it with the contents you want. If you have not computer savvy, then you can still do this but it would take a small while before you get comfortable with it but it’s probably the best thing to do if you want to do advanced things in the future and start with a simple website right now. It’s also the most economical in my opinion as you’ll get started with a website for very less without having to pay anything other than hosting and domain name.

If you want to design your website on your own computer and then upload it to your web host, then you can take a look at Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Muse. But I’d recommend against these approaches.

Hope that helps.

Steven Your Questions About Website Design Software

Steven asks…

what is the best website software to design a website?

Ive trued Dreamweaver cs4 & cs5 and also web-plus x4 I been having problems with Serif web-plus x4 and Dreamweaver is a lot of different structural designing then I want can someone tell me what I should try that is worth trying

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Software

Jay answers:

Notepad, Notepad++, and similar, simple, free text editors.

You don’t need fancy programmes like Dreamweaver to make a good website. They add a lot of useless, stylistic, meaningless and structureless code to your web pages. Some of them could be configured to not include these meaningless codes, which is good, but even then, you won’t have as much control as you would if you go back and edit the code yourself by hand.

Just make sure to learn good HTML from a site like http://htmldog.com/ if you already haven’t.

That’s not saying that it is bad to use these programmes, but trust me, you’ll have a lot more control over what goes in your page by making it yourself =)

I hope that you get good answers on your question =)

Yes, it is a good idea. Studies show that mobile traffic is increasing rapidly, like 20% per year. Now is probably also a good time to get your foot in the door when there is not much competition. We made our website www.pcmethods.com mobile very easily by flipping a switch in Hubspot, the CMS. I would charge based on the site rather than the number of pages since you can have a page that takes a lot of time and effort or a page that takes 5 minutes max.

Target market for mobile pet grooming business?

What do the customers read? What do they want? What do they like? Why will they buy your product or service?

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing

Jay answers:

As a pet owner, I would want experience. How long have you been grooming? Of course prices, hours, and contact info. I would want to know how up to date your equipment is, how safe it is, etc. Also, that ‘personal touch.’ What kind of pets you have/how long, and just generally treating the animals you’re working with as if they were your own. I would want to see you petting and reassuring, maybe little dog and cat treats.

It’s REALLY the personal touch that gets me. I shop at a local, smaller pet store that charges a bit more than the “big chains” just because the people are a million times more friendly there, we’ve all grown to be on a first name basis, and I particularly enjoy that I can sit and talk to them about our animals. I can honestly tell that they care about the health of their animals they sell and sell products for, even if it means costing them more.

Don’t search for major companies because they will cost you a fortune, talk to your friends and family because it’s a really easy job that most people you wouldn’t expect probably know how to do. However if you can’t find anyoe personally that you know, search newspapers for local small companies.

Susan Your Questions About Website Design Pricing

Susan asks…

Is there a company that allows you to directly ship products from your website out of their warehouse?

Is there a company who not only stores your products for sale, they set up the backend of the website (and give you product numbers to track stuff) and shopping cart.

All you have to do is have items you want to sell directly shipped to the warehouse and it will be catologed for your website to be priced and sold. THEN its directly shipped to the person who buys it. Anybody know of a company who does that? For example if I make jewlery and want to sell it, is there a way that I can have the warehouse set up the back end and stuff so all I have to worry about is the front end website design?

Http://www.worldwidebrands.com get positive reviews from the online merchants forum I visit. They have a list (for a fee) of suppliers who will ship for you (dropship).

Do you have website / electronic storefront already. If not, visit http://www.multi-tradeonline.com — reseller of StoresOnline [SOL] storebuilder licenses for as low as 10% of what it would have cost you (price of 1 site compared to price for ‘pack of 3 sites + other stuff bundled together’ — the minimum you can buy direct from SOL).

U can design ur own style of t-shorts using something as simple as microsoft word and if u go to usually any public clothing manufacturer u can print ur designs on t-shirts for a really cheap price rather than if u used private manufacturing companies. Also, if u buy in bigger bulks it will be a lot less expensive.

Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Charles Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Charles asks…

Employers: Do you think a man makes a better employee/worker for you if he is MARRIED or SINGLE (unattached)?

Decades ago when the workforce was comprised of predominantly men and it was predominantly women who stayed at home and took care of the house and the kids (if they had any), the idea was that, as a man advanced in his career and moved up the ladder, the wife at home was partially responsible because she took care of all the domestic issues as he was allowed to focus on his career. Therefore if and when they ever got divorced, the wife was theoretically entitled to a portion of his paycheck since she supposedly helped advance his career.

Then there was the huge influx of women into the workforce, the rise of dual income families, the run-up in housing prices such that it was taking two incomes just to keep a roof over head, and lots of things changed…EXCEPT…the old concept that if a man advances in his career and he is married, the wife somehow was responsible for his success.

Now there are laws which prevent discrimination in hiring and being married is not supposed to enter into an employers decision-making process when considering which candidate to hire. But this is not the government here asking this question. I am asking for employers REAL candid opinions on this topic: Does a married man make a better employee than does a single man? And do married men in general advance faster than do single men such that their marriage could be credited for a portion of their success?

I am not talking about occupations where the husband and wife run a business together or where the wife is frequently visible at his job and considered a factor contributing to his production of income. I am talking about a regular job where the husband goes away during the day and comes back home after work, whether his wife is a stay-at-home mom and/or homemaker, or active in her own job outside the home. This would be the type of job where the employer rarely sees the wife except say at Christmas parites or other social events where spouses were welcome.

One argument might be that a single man has more freedom over his time and fewer obligations outside the office such that he can commit more hours to overtime or whatever is needed to get the job done without other life distractions. Another argument is that single men are more mobile and might jump ship to accept a better paying job at another company in a different market, therefore a man who puts down roots locally via a wife and perhaps children, is a better investment of employment dollars because they will be more loyal to the employer and less mobile.

Employers — What are YOUR thoughts on this issue? And are the divorce laws really fair in maintaining that old argument that a wife MAKES a man more successful, therefore she is due a big chunk of his paycheck after divorce regardless of her own education, work experience, and employability?

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

I think that married men are more attractive in an employer’s eyes because they are obviously not skittish of commitment or responsibilities, meaning that they will most likely show up to work on time and complete their work in a timely manner.

Ruth Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Ruth asks…

Does the Moral Ideal for Families Simply Follow the Economic Ideal?

Until pretty recently (i.e. 1950s+), most people had very limited mobility. It was normal for someone to grow up, marry and find work in the same town or village they were born in, and would come to grow old in.

As people became much more mobile, the concept of a “job for life” disappeared, and it is now much more usual for a person to complete their education many miles from where they were schooled, and to travel to find work flexibly.

It occurs to me that relationships have also become more flexible, as people can choose a partner outside their town of origin, and move between relationships much more easily than they used to.

Have our morals simply adapted to reflect our increased mobility, and the new economics of the labor market?

Is it anything to do with Traditional Values or Feminism at all?

What do you think?

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

I think the fact that the family is evolving to look less like it did in the 1950s is due to a whole lot of factors, and you’ve just identified some very important ones.

Life goes on. The two parents and children in a house living alone as a family unit while Dad works and Mom stays home was unique the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

My great-grandmother had nine children, spaced out over 20 years. The whole extended family lived in two houses on the same street. She worked her butt off (household chores, making wine and bathtub whisky during prohibition, tending to a store she and my great-grandfather had, keeping chickens). Her unmarried sisters helped raise her older children. Later, her older children helped raised her younger children. I’m sure there were many days her little kids never laid eyes on her because she was so busy.

Dad plus Mom plus two or three kids and a family dog living in a suburban ranch was only the American family norm for a few decades.

Life moves on.

William Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

William asks…

Will Bar work help me with a job in Estate Agency?

Hi,
Ok so I am currently in my final year of A-Level study and want to enter the property market with becoming an estate agent. Now there are no qualifications needed for this job but most vancancies area asking for a retail / sales background.
No I don’t really have that, with my part time job being Barman. Could this job fill in that gap? I know it’s not as if I’m selling people mobile contracts or clothes but I am still selling stuff.

I believe that this job will help me with the fact being that estate agents have to be good communicators, and working behind the bar you have to be the same. You certainly can’t ignore the the people around the bar and you get to know many of the locals by being a good communicator!

So will this help me with getting into estate agency?????

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

I think it will help. Your work ethic and interaction with the public is a start. Bear in mind that you will be a negotiator not an estate agent per se. To set up as an estate agent you need a relevant qualification such as surveyor, architect or lands management degree.

This is the well know 419 Advanced Fee FRAUD (Cheque Processing) SCAM .. (Google it and you will get almost 2 million hits …)

You bank their fake/stolen cheques, ‘keep’ your ‘commission’, draw out the balance and pay them via Western Union / Money Gram or similar.

It works because Cheques are REVERSIBLE whilst Western Union payments are not …. When the cheque ‘bounces’ your bank takes the money back, even if that leaves you with an overdraft … . Meanwhile some chap is collecting your free money gift from a WU office in Nigeria …

Whilst the chap in Nigeria is untouchable, there have been cases where the victim has been arrested for cheque fraud …

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

100% scam.

There is no job.

There is only a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money.

The next email will be from another of the scammer’s fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the “secretary/assistant/accountant” and will demand you cash a large fake check sent on a stolen UPS/FedEx billing account number and send most of the “money” via Western Union or moneygram back to the scammer posing as the “supply company” while you “keep” a small portion. When your bank realizes the check is fake and it bounces, you get the real life job of paying back the bank for the bounced check fees and all the bank’s money you sent to an overseas criminal.

Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.

When you refuse to send him your cash he will send increasingly nasty and rude emails trying to convince you to go through with his scam. The scammer could also create another fake name and email address like “FBI@ gmail.com”, “police_person @hotmail.com” or “investigator @yahoo.com” and send emails telling you the job is legit and you must cash the fake check and send your money to the scammer or you will face legal action. Just ignore, delete and block those email addresses. Although, reading a scammer’s attempt at impersonating a law enforcement offical can be extremely funny.

Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his ‘potential sucker’ list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.

Do you know how to check the header of a received email? If not, you could google for information. Being able to read the header to determine the geographic location an email originated from will help you weed out the most obvious scams and scammers. Then delete and block that scammer. Don’t bother to tell him that you know he is a scammer, it isn’t worth your effort. He has one job in life, convincing victims to send him their hard-earned cash.

Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.

6 “Rules to follow” to avoid most fake jobs:
1) Job asks you to use your personal bank account and/or open a new one.
2) Job asks you to print/mail/cash a check or money order.
3) Job asks you to use Western Union or moneygram in any capacity.
4) Job asks you to accept packages and re-ship them on to anyone.
5) Job asks you to pay visas, travel fees via Western Union or moneygram.
6) Job asks you to sign up for a credit reporting or identity verification site.

Avoiding all jobs that mention any of the above listed ‘red flags’ and you will miss nearly all fake jobs. Only scammers ask you to do any of the above. No. Exceptions. Ever. For any reason.

If you google “fake check cashing job”, “fraud Western Union scam”, “money mule moneygram scam” or something similar you will find hundreds of posts from victims and near-victims of this type of scam.

a way to invest my money – genuine?

hi, iv came into just over £85,000 inheratince and i need some way to invest some of it

iv not really got any qualifications or business experiance but i am willing to try my ass off

i would really like to run my own company and went to a franchise senimar but i dont want to give that much of my money out – how often do you get a chance like this?

im ok with my hands so does anyone know what type of business to open or a better way to invest it?

i was also thiking about a window cleaning round or mobile valet van (saw a fully kitted out van for £7000) anyone tried these and if so does it make you money?

thanks all who answer

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

Well first put the money in the bank in a high yield savings account for the time being. That will allow you to get about 5% on your money in the short time.
Regarding the business, be aware that about 90% of all small businesses fail during the first year. You have more than enough to start a small business so I would suggest that you spend a great deal of time investigating all the pros and cons of being your own boss and owning a small business because there are both.
Don’t just dive into something that you think is a good idea or someone else thinks, do your research and take your time, even if it means another year in your job.

There is a website for INF consulting, although it is sketchily detailed. However, other than a passport copy, there is no request for any detailed personal information – bank accounts etc…
Can anyone offer advice?

Best Regards,

It’s not real. NO company would ever ask a complete stranger they had never met in person to open a bank account or handle financial transactions for ANY reason. This is called money laundering and tax evasion and you can go to prison for this

And DO NOT EVER send a copy of your passort to anyone for any reason – this is identity theft

Lisa Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Lisa asks…

What moderately attractive people with no temperament are supposed to do?

First, I do not want any mean answers, I have them in real life,
thank you.
I am from a poor family, and managed to get a university education
and then – a PhD. I worked really hard for it. I graduated from everything with distinction, because I am not a fool, plus I worked hard. I got a job – and I worked hard and never was late or missed a day. My problem was that I could not deal with men. It does sound conceited, but I have problem with men. I am a pleasant looking (not a great beauty, have seen a lot of girls prettier than I), but I constantly get into trouble with men. In the uni it were professors, in the postgraduate course – the head of the university, and so on. They all asked me to go to bed with them in exchange of grades, and so on.
They all had something for me, and I had none. Now I know how people dislike people who brag, I am telling the truth, and it was very difficult for me to tell it. When I talk to my family it’s like “what, do you imagine yourself a Miss Universe with your mug, ha ha ha?” I do not imagine, I am like others, and want to be like others, I am nothing special. I got my first job, and after a while the boss hit on me, and when I rejected, fired me. The second job, boss gave me looks, his wife came to check on me, fired me. The third job… and so on. I am a simple person, and I am not modern – I have to know a man for at least three months to think about something, and it must be a free man. I help my family. I keep low profile. I do not use make-up. It’s of no use. I bought that long, baggy white dress to cover me from top to toe, and got a strange man following me and saying: “pull it up, I wanna see what’s under your clothes”. I got a job on the computer, no need to go out, translate scientific texts and send by e-mail. But yesterday I went out to the supermarket, and a stocky, muscles man followed me (at 1 p.m.), overcame me, took out a mobile and photographed me through his shoulder! I rent a condo – two men are neighbours, they ring my doorbell at wee hours and expect to get laid. In short: whenever I start doing, I have to put out to get it, and I do not want to. I feel like a horseflesh on some market. I dreamed about having a nice little job to pay bills, a nice man and a son, I already have a name. I see now that it will never happen. I do not have a temperament to put out for all and sundry and hope for something nice to happen. I won’t earn any, and I will never have a man (just I am going to give it to you and move on types). What am I supposed to do?

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

You should live up to your potential and not hide away in your home or try to cover yourself up with baggy clothes.

Some men are like that, specially if they feel they cannot control or own you. If a men like that is in a certain position he will act upon it, and if he does not get what he wants you will be ‘punished’.

These are sad little men, and not all men are like that.
It’s unfortunate you have seem to encounter so many of the wrong kind, but it’s not you it’s them!

Stay true to yourself and keep on saying NO to those kind of men, certainly don’t give up, pick yourself up and try again.

Ad the end of the day you will find that job, husband and more and be able to be proud of what you have accomplished.

Maria Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Maria asks…

Can US Companies Deny Personal Internet Access?

I work in the sales department of a US-based battery manufacturer outside the US. My job nature requires me to go online to do market research, but for some odd reason I do not get internet access at work. I ask repeatedly to get internet access on my work computer and the answer is NO. There are a couple of internet workstations somewhere on my office floor and I am told to use them to get online. However this is very inconvenient, especially when I need to copy and paste information I find on the internet. So I decided to get online with my personal netbook with a newly subscribed mobile broadband service. One day my supervisor saw me getting online with my personal netbook and informed the IT department about it. The IT department then sent me an email saying that using my own netbook for internet access is strictly prohibited in this company. I am not happy about this. I want to know if it is legal for US companies to disallow employees from using internet devices (such as netbooks or cell phones) to get online. I am not trying to transfer confidential company information to my netbook or anything like that. I am just trying to do my job since my company is unable or refuses to provide the necessary tools for me.

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Mobile Marketing Jobs

Jay answers:

Yes,they can. You are on their time, they have every right to restrict you using personal devices. They are providing the necessary tools for you. There is internet access in the building that you are able to use. The fact that it is inconvenient for you doesn’t make one lick of difference.

Jay answers:

Well, there’s not much there yet to comment on, but I would decrease the size of the “graphic design” tagline, put it all on one line, and move it above the divider and under your name. The way is sits now is kind of a weird hierarchy in the design. Make sure you are varying the size of the fonts on your site to show the user what’s important. Otherwise if everything is roughly the same font size, the design turns into this sort of sea of “same-ness” with no contrast or hierarchy.

Jay answers:

For this kind of website you will be best to learn the following (books may be needed, however w3schools has good tutorials) :
>Javascript
>Flash
>CSS
>html
>reasonable level of photo editing skills
>xhtml (a stricter version of html, if you learn html properly then you shouldn’t really need to learn xhtml)
> and by this time you should be aware of any other languages needed.

Alternatively, you could design a more basic, (and in my opinion less annoying) website using basic html and some good vector graphics and basic photo editing.
Free software is available:
>Kompozer (basic programme for writing your html into)
>Gimp 2.6 (photo editing)
>Inkscape (vector graphic package)

there are loads of tutorials online for help on using these programmes.

The content of your website:
Just write what you think, your opinions, and ideas (design is creative so there are no real rules)
Use mind maps to create ideas, look at magazines to get ideas for articles.
Draw basic sketches of what you want on your website based on the mind maps.

Good luck,
hope this helped

Website design, How to?

I want to make my own website. I want to have advertising on my site to so that I can make money from it. Does anyone have any tips? If I use something like www.blogger.com then do I have to pay them any money that I make off of it. Is it better to design my own site or use one of these other sites?

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Tips

Jay answers:

Learn html/css, unless your website has a lot of viewers you won’t make very much from advertising, as you will need to pay for a host + domain.

What’s a good website with pictures of bathrooms in it?

Hey folks,

I am going to be redoing my bathroom and to come up with the design, I’d like to just browse hundreds of photos of bathrooms until I find one who’s color scheme and tile I like, and then try to mimic it as best I can.

What’s a good website for this? I’m not looking for design tips or how to’s. Just looking to browse as many photos as I can.

Thanks!

Jay answers:

You can always check out flickr.com and just type in bathroom. Or use yahoo’s image search. Or, you can go to HGTV’s site. Just search for ‘bathroom remodel’ or something of the like and you’ll get tons of things.

What is a good graphic design software for pcs?

I make flyers and brochures for my company, and I have a pc. I currently use Microsoft Publisher, which is very limited. I’m not a graphic designer by trade, but with a small company, you sometimes wear many hats. I believe I can do much better work with another program that actually allows me to edit graphics and has more backgrounds, etc. Also, I want to stay in the few hundred dollars range. HELP! Also, does anybody know a website where I can get free, good graphic design tips? Thanks!

Website Design Commissions?

When someone pays you to create a website for them, how does it all work?

What is the pricing and how is that worked out? For example, is it per page? And basic website vs complicated design?

What sort of info do you promt from the client and when do you show them progress in case they want things changed (an obvious one would be the mock ups/comps, but when else)? When is payment made? Should a contract be signed also?

What if the client wants you to make a small update in the future? How much do you charge them?

Any other tips?

Thank you. icon smile Your Questions About Website Design Tips

Jay answers:

I’m a young graphic designer…
I’m not sure about web designing…

But I think you’re suppose to plan on how it all work out

I see some web designers out there get paid per pages sometimes per hour or watchu call it and yea…

I don’t know much about web designing
I think*

but
I think a basic web layout would be ok (don’t make it too basic…try to make it a bit unique too)
it looks more professional looking…like it has more spacing or watever
I don’t know how to explain it, but yea…

A complicated design is only complicated if you can’t design it…
So I guess any thing can be complicated or not…
Ahaha…bad joke -_-’
sorry

anywaise
I mostly use as much javascript as I can in my web designs…

I’m working on a website now and I’m not finish yet (it will take a while till I finish it because I’m really busy these days), so…sorry I can’t show you what I mean, but yea…
Hopefully my advice helps alittle

I don’t know as much when it comes to web designing…
I only know so little

about the contract thing…
Yes, you should write a contract for them to sign (just incase)
it’s always good to have a backup
the payment should be decided by you and how much you put your effort into you your work

If a client wants to make a small update in the future…
I would probly charge them depending on the time and/or effort I took on a design

well hopefully that helps somehow

I guess another good tip is…
Don’t use as much flash if you’re planning to use it on your designs
I heard it can slow down your website…
That’s why I often use javascipt menus in my web designs

bless

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Tips

Jay answers:

Hi James,

Actually no it isn’t as easy as it may appear at first glance. If you are in the UK I would suggest having a look at http://www.gumtree.com and placing a free ad or looking for a graphic designer on there. I found an amazing lady who designed two book covers for me at a fee you would not believe. I wasted several months on coming up with designs, which were very limited and my technical know how showed up on the finished designs too. This lady just took my ideas and whoosh made everything look so simple and professional….but do learn how to use your software package but designers actually go to college to learn it. I recommend that perhaps you do also to get the best out of it.

Good luck!

What do you think? Need some help with a website design…?

Hi,

I am currently designing a website for a drama group that I am involved in…. I have made a basic design, and I don’t really want to change it too much, but I really think that it just looks too boring, especially when you scroll half way down the page and can’t see either the header or the footer.

www.kyds.org.uk

Can anybody give me any suggestions or tips to improve the design? I’m using Microsoft Frontpage…

Thanks icon smile Your Questions About Website Design Tips
Thanks everyone for your feedback, am taking the advice about borders and the size of the screen it takes up, and the content of the front page in particular.
Will also try and make the underlining more consistent!!

2011 07 20 1239 cropped Your Questions About Website Design Tips

Jay answers:

It does look kinda boring. The problem is you don’t have any images nor colors.

You’re making a website for a drama group…

Also, you’re putting down on the front page exactly what is on the navigation bar. Kinda redundant…

Personally,
Instead of taking the site taking the whole screen, I would make it a fixed size so that it would have borders and on the back I would put images of the group. Rehearsal or something.

Remove the content that describes the different things on the navigation bar. If you want to describe them, I would put something brief on the specific site.
